After leaving our hotel, we we're dropped off at the airport, where we thought that we could catch a shuttle to playa grande...if only it was that easy. We soon found out that we needed to go into San Jose (20km away) to catch a shuttle that was possibly leaving for Tamarindo. It was right then and there that we made the decision to catch the afternoon airplane instead of trying to go through San Jose. We were very thankful because the flight made the trip 45 min. instead of a 6 hour ride...very nice. After boarding our single engine prop plane that seated only 12 (Rachelle’s first), we landed in tamarindo…barely, the winds were so strong that our pilot nearly missed the runway, but after a few skips and a little dust we finally got to our destination. I was amazed to see the runway paved.
Playa Grande has changed quite a bit since the last time I was here, there has been a lot of development and there are 4 new hotels near the beach. We checked into our apartment at Hotel las Tortugas and got a motorcycle ride to our new home for the week. We have a great room with a full kitchen and a private bathroom and a TV. We then rentured to the beach for some tacos and fun in the waves. We saw a beautiful sunset and played in the waves til dark. We have met some nice people along the way, mostly from the east coast, specifically NY, funny how they want to get away
Right now we are just kicking back enjoying some fine cervezas and fish burritos while making our plans for the morning. We are safe and sound and can't wait to settle in to our new home for the week.
